Dua is one of the greatest acts of worship. It increases a person’s iman, Allah says:
And your Lord says, “Call upon Me; I will respond to you.” Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible. [40:60]
Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah said:
Du’a and the seeking of protection from Allah are like weapons, but the sharpness of a weapon is not sufficient for it to cause effect, for the person that handles it also plays a role. So whenever the weapon is a perfect one, having no flaw in it, and the forearm is strong, and there are no preventing factors, then it will cause and effect on the enemy.
We need to remember as Ramadan approaches that we should take the time to perfect not only our salah but our dua as well. Allah is close to the one Making dua, Allah’s says in the Qur’an:
And he who repents and does righteousness does indeed turn to Allah with [accepted] repentance. 25:71
And [they are] those who do not testify to falsehood, and when they pass near ill speech, they pass by with dignity. 25:72
And those who, when reminded of the verses of their Lord, do not fall upon them deaf and blind. 25:73
And those who say, “Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an example for the righteous.” 25:74
Those will be awarded the Chamber for what they patiently endured, and they will be received therein with greetings and [words of] peace. 25:75
Abiding eternally therein. Good is the settlement and residence. 25:76
Say, “What would my Lord care for you if not for your supplication?” For you [disbelievers] have denied, so your denial is going to be adherent. 25:77
